I have put up a new post on my blog with an overview of a feature for my new RPG that I think is really exciting. I was not kidding when I said I am creating a digital world! My goal for this new game is to create a living breathing world that evolves on its own and can be shaped by players.

This feature, dynamic clans, is the first step towards that:

I would appreciate advice and suggestions directly regarding this new feature and also regarding the map and how to improve it... It is pretty rough right now.

Maybe also include Player-only clans and they could also get strongholds and act like the NPC clans?

Woa, I'm surprised! No new topic about the new blog post, which is in other words: Wirmy found a less-glitchy coding for his game.

Oh, and, will the game have a seperate website or will it be a mini-game on this site?

I will probably have both a separate website and a launcher on this site, like the Mario game has.

I have it doing username verification with CND usernames though. As for the clan thing, I want to allow players to play (the) major leadership role in the clans. I see that as a pretty important part to making the dynamic world relevant to the players. I want the gameplay to be tied to the dynamic world in a useful manner... Why? Well, when Ultima Online came out (late 90's) it had a whole eco-system set up spawning mobs, flora, and resources according to a realistic system much like the one I am trying to achieve. But at release players totally destroyed the eco-system by killing all the mobs and harvesting all the trees, so they had to go back to using a very simple respawn system just so players could continue to play. The players didn't notice at all though, because the eco-system did not have any real effect on their gameplay. The two design lessons to learn from this would be a) respawn resources and mobs at a rate that adapts with how fast they are being destroyed, and b) if you are going to add a feature make sure players notice it and can enjoy it.

As of the progress at the moment, all you can do to effect the clans war is to kill NPCs to hurt that NPC's clan.

Yeah, I think that's okay, but players of certain experience could create a clan with a moderator's approval or something and make a player-only clan. Also, maybe being able that players could join an already established clan without leadership roles?

Yeah, the second one... Joining a clan would be easy but getting a leadership role in a clan that's controlled by a NPC leader would be difficult. That would do three things... First it would add a repeatable goal to the game (ie, take over a NPC clan). Second it would encourage players to log in occassionally (to make sure their NPCs are doing OK). Third it would minimize the amount of new clans being started by players but never checked up on after.

Yeah, but that's why there should be a mod approval or something, or meeting certain requirements for user created clans.

Wormy, do you have an official title yet?

Will you eventaully come back to CND and find a way to revive it? We miss you (and the servers). I think you could somehow put CND's current sprites into this new animation system of yours.

Okay, here's by your last blog post talking about Zelda what I think about it.

If you can't tell yet, WORG is meant to be an open world action RPG, which is the sort of game I like, which is why I mostly agree with this article.

I agree. One of the things I liked in Dragon Quest IX (turn based RPG, but one of the DS games that looks the most like WORG) was that I could (after a certain point (after getting the boat)) get to almost anywhere in the game, some places where I was WAY too underpowered/underleveled. It gave a challenge to survive and gave me some fun, as I figured one of my favorite things in these games is exploring.

I do not especially agree that Zelda should be 'harder', because the difficulty of modern games has been dictated by the modern player: We want easy games. I am annoyed by it too sometimes, but it is something we have to come to terms with for big titles like Zelda.

Well I, like many other gamers, think that they should be harder, but that's probably why most modern games have different difficulty levels.

You may feel insulted by his article because in your opinion, the fundemental Zelda is puzzles. Telon notes, Zelda I and II were devoid of puzzles. This is where a contention may created between old and new fans of the series, because older Zelda fans like myself see Zelda fundementally as an action open-world RPG with endless secrets and interests... But that just isn't the direction the series went.

I am a modern Zelda fan. But yeah, in Dragon Quest IX, there's the grotto feature, which can make you search for hours to find the grotto without a guide. Yeah, open world with lots secrets to discover has always been a favorite by me.

The rest, well, I can't say much. By the way, are we going to see a beta soon? At least like, with one class for now? Yeha, I think that for the first version, just as a sneak peek, one spell, one weapon, set equipment, one class and maybe online though.
